The Movie:

The DVD offers footage from REM on tour in 1990, and songs include Stand, The One I Love, These Days, Turn You Inside Out, World Leader Pretend, Feeling Gravitys Pull, I Believe, I Remember California, Get Up, It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine), Pop Song 89, Fall On Me, You Are The Everything, Begin the Begin, King Of Birds, Finest Worksong, Perfect Circle.

Although I've always liked a few of the bands songs, I've never been a very big fan. This concert footage is pretty entertaining though - lead singer Michael Stipe is a lively performer and the rest of the band also does a wonderful job. Fans of the band may be entertained and enjoy this concert footage, but I would like to see more of a complete package from the band; a disc with more extras on the bands history and better sound.

The DVD

VIDEO: Be prepared for a very basic presentation on both the audio and video fronts. The concert is presented in full-frame, and although the band may have been going for an arty tone to the show, which is fine, the picture is frequently noisy and somewhat grainy. This varies though; some of the shots look decent, but the majority of the presentation could benefit from improved sharpness. Much of it looks soft and lacking in clarity and detail. The concert is a mix of black and white and color footage and the black and white footage actually looks rather good at times, crisp and bold.

SOUND: The sound is actually somewhat enjoyable, but not nearly as much of an experience as some of the other recent concert DVDs. Given that this is a 1990 documentary, the sound (PCM Stereo) does about as good of a job as I would have expected at presenting the show.

Clarity is fine and although the sound is never "thin" or "harsh", there really isn't much bass or power in general behind it. Crowd noise is captured well and adds to the excitement of the show without getting in the way of the music. This is definitely a passable presentation, but I would like to hear the band in full Dolby Digital 5.1.

MENUS:: The main menu is actually animated with a clip playing and music in the background.

EXTRAS:: None.

Final Thoughts: Recommended for R.E.M fans, but $24.95 does seem like a bit much for no extras and fair audio/video quality.
